In line with this trend, Watson & Company launched 'Point of Focus, POCUS', a consumer mental healthcare product utilizing safe microcurrent, in November.


'POCUS' is a mental healthcare product that allows consumers to safely use hospital-use brain activation medical devices. The applied technology is a method of non-invasively stimulating the brain by sending weak microcurrents to the brain, and has recently been used for therapeutic purposes in the fields of rehabilitation medicine, neurology, and psychiatry. Focus can be easily worn by consumers in everyday life and is effective in improving concentration and learning ability and relieving stress.


Kim Min-gyu, CEO of Watson & Company, said, “The transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) technology applied to ‘POCUS’ has been receiving worldwide attention and has been studied for a long time, and there are over 6,000 related papers proving its effectiveness, but it has not yet been commercialized.” He added, “It calms excessive brain function and activates decreased brain function, helping to find balance between the left and right brain. It is a device that can help students who require high concentration, office workers and adults who are under a lot of stress, and middle-aged and elderly people who are starting to experience memory loss.


Focus is safe with almost no side effects, and it is easy to operate and portable, and it is competitive in terms of function and price because it is for consumers. In addition, it provides convenience by applying an EMS patch for the first time in the world to reduce the inconvenience of using saline patches used in medical institutions.


Ahead of the first launch of ‘POCUS,’ Watson & Company, a global medical device company, It is a startup company jointly developed by the CEO from Johnson & Johnson Medical, Professor Jeong Yong-an from Catholic University Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, and executives from a US semiconductor company with an MBA from Samsung Electronics and INSEAD. The company was recognized as having a company value of 3.5 billion won by the Korea Technology Finance Corporation Venture Investment Center in June of this year, successfully attracting investment at the Pre-A stage. Watson & Company plans to sign a business agreement (MOU) with Catholic University Incheon St. Mary's Hospital early next month.


CEO Kim said, “We started supplying to the Dementia Care Center at Gokseong-gun Public Health Center in Korea last October, and we plan to gradually expand to consumers starting with national and public institutions such as the National Naju Hospital and public health centers nationwide. In addition, we have completed the establishment of a US corporation in Delaware in order to prepare for exports centered on the US market, and we plan to secure various partners around the world through overseas crowdfunding early next year.”
